As an English teacher, John Wooden developed a visual aid to teach his students the qualities and characteristics an individual or team would need to become successful. This workshop will teach the principles underlying the Pyramid of Success, habits of successful leaders, and quotes John Wooden used to trigger the habits. Teens, young adults, and parents are highly encouraged to attend together. Each guest will receive a laminated Pyramid of Success, including a version with the most recognized quotes and habits.

Phil was previously the CFO and CPO at Mindoula, a healthtech company that serves populations with complex behavioral health, medical, and social challenges across the continuum of care. Phil began his career at KPMG’s Risk Consulting practice in Silicon Valley and co-founded the Jeremy Lin Foundation, a non-profit whose mission is to serve at-risk youth through education and leadership development in underserved communities. * * * **Dr. Yvonne Chen - Professor of Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics at UCLA**  Dr. Yvonne Chen is a Professor of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at UCLA. She is also a faculty, by courtesy, in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Yvonne is the co-director of the Tumor Immunology program in the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCLA, and a member researcher of the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy. Dr. Chen received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University and her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. She received postdoctoral training at the Seattle Children’s Research Institute, and in the Department of Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining UCLA in 2013, she was a Junior Fellow in the Harvard Society of Fellows. The Chen Laboratory applies synthetic biology and biomolecular engineering techniques to the development of novel mammalian-cell systems for clinical use, and Dr. Chen led the first investigator-initiated clinical trial on CAR-T cell therapy at UCLA. The Chen Lab’s work on engineering next-generation T-cell therapies for cancer has been recognized by the NIH Director’s Early Independence Award, the NSF CAREER Award, the Hellman Fellowship, the ACGT Young Investigator Award in Cell and Gene Therapy for Cancer, the Mark Foundation Emerging Leader Award, and the Cancer Research Institute Lloyd J. Old STAR Award. Dr. Chen was also the co-founder of ImmPACT Bio, which is now part of Lyell Immunopharma. * * * **Thomas Moon CFA - Investment Director at UCLA Investment Company** Thomas Moon is an Investment Director at UCLA Investment Company and is responsible for the endowment’s venture capital portfolio. Prior to joining UCLA, Thomas spent 5+ years at Sapphire Ventures as part of the Sapphire Partners team out of the Bay Area and London offices. Thomas played an integral role in sourcing, underwriting, and committing over $150M per year to early stage venture funds across the US, Europe, and Israel. As part of his role at Sapphire, Thomas spent two years in London as the sole Sapphire Partners investment team member playing a lead role in building and managing the firm’s European portfolio. Thomas was also a frequent contributor to #OpenLP, a community platform built to foster transparency and best practices for how GPs, LPs, and entrepreneurs interact. All alumni are invited to attend—come network, connect with other Bruins, and discover exciting opportunities to get involved with our vibrant alumni communities. OC Bruins & USC Alumni OC come together for a meaningful morning of service. Volunteers will help sort and inspect food to support local families in need, with tasks including processing produce, packaged goods and crates. Children 13-17 are welcome to volunteer with completed Youth Liability Waiver (see registration page for details).

Volunteers will help remove invasive plants to protect native habitats. Tools, gloves, and educational materials will be provided. Please bring close-toed shoes, sun protection, water, and dress in layers. The meeting location is 555 Guadalupe Canyon Parkway, Brisbane, CA 94005—this is the main park entrance to San Bruno Mountain State and County Park. Entry fee will be waived for volunteering on the day of the event. Please sign the volunteer agreement form in advance of the event. There is a lot of interesting wildlife and plants at San Bruno Mountain.

Join us for a screening of an eclectic mix of television programming inspired by the research paper, “The Ideology of Liveness, Theatricality, and the Star Persona: Vincent Price on Television,” written by archivist Gabz Norte. The paper was produced for the graduate seminar “Researching the UCLA Film & Television Archive,” taught by Maya Montañez Smukler (Head, Archive Research and Study Center) in UCLA’s Cinema and Media Studies program, Winter 2022. Screening the following: Beyond Terror: Vincent Price on Television Forever synonymous with blood-curdling terror, Vincent Price was much more than a horror legend. His refined taste and diverse talents epitomize the classic definition of a Renaissance man. Join us for an eclectic mix of television programming celebrating the beloved icon, including lighthearted daytime talk shows highlighting his deep knowledge of art and cooking, starring roles in prestige television dramas from Alfred Hitchcock and Rod Serling, and a biographical retrospective on This Is Your Life. Vincent Price invites viewers into his home in Beverly Glen for a playful tour of his world-class art collection of rare works he acquired from around the globe. Along with host Jack Linketter, Price also welcomes fellow legend, director William Castle for an in-depth discussion of the horror genre for which they are renowned. Guest starring Vincent Price (excerpts, U.S., ca, 1970s) This trio of endearing appearances on Dinah Shore’s popular daytime talk show illuminate Vincent Price beyond the horror genre. Highlights include Price sharing his refined culinary talents over a glass of wine with Dinah, an uproarious reminiscence of the Mercury Theatre with fellow guest Orson Welles, and a hilarious reading of an unexpectedly frightful text. This Is Your Life: “Vincent Price” (U.S., 3/18/73) From inside the Pickwick Book Shop on Hollywood Boulevard, Vincent Price finds himself ambushed by host Ralph Edwards for a life retrospective. In the course of the moving half hour, Price’s vital advocacy for Native American artists and their art is heralded, and the superstar is reunited with a litany of family members and well-wishers, including fellow legend Helen Hayes.

Join UCLA's Pilipino Alumni Association for our annual Parol Workshop and Holiday Party! Guests will enjoy a cultural presentation on the Parol, a colorful star-shaped lantern traditionally hung in homes and streets throughout the Philippines during the holidays. All are welcome to make their very own parols to take home and spread the holiday cheer. Stay for our holiday party, which includes traditional Pilipino lunch and a performance from UCLA's Tinig Choral. Tinig, which means “voice” in Tagalog, is a student-initiated, student-run, a capella choir.

Grupo Folklórico de UCLA Alumni Association will have a benefit to support the current Grupo Folklórico de UCLA student group. We will be raising funds to provide for the construction of a portable wooden stage to be used for practices and performances. We will have dance performances by Danza Azteca de West LA and alumni members. We will also dance to the stylings of the 605 All-Stars band. There will be a wide variety of Mexican food and aguas frescas. Our event theme is, “Día de los Muertos” and we hope to see you there as we honor our founding professor Emilio Pulido and alumni who are no longer with us.

We will be hiking Sullivan Canyon. It's in and out so those who want a shorter hike can turn around early and the rest of us will continue on for a longer hike for a total of up to 8.5 miles round trip. Please also bring water, snacks, and sun protection as you will need.

Join us for a special holiday hike on the Westridge Trail on 12/14 to the Nike missile site at San Vicente Mountain. Wear your most outrageous holiday sweaters and festive colors, along with any other holiday swag you want to show off. The hike is approximately 7 miles with an elevation gain of 730 feet and with the option to turn around early for those who do not want to join the full hike. Please also make sure that you are prepared with appropriate footwear, sunscreen and/or a hat, and plenty of water.
