Beyond the Classroom: Career Workshop

This interactive workshop is designed for Scholars who already have a job offer, are starting a new role soon, or are actively seeking employment. Together, we’ll break down key information that is often expected of adults in the workplace, but rarely explained. We’ll break down key workplace topics, including W-4 tax forms, paycheck deductions, direct deposit setup, and what a tax refund really means. The session will also cover how to evaluate employee benefits like health insurance, HSAs, and 401(k) retirement plans, as well as what documents to have ready for your first day of work. In addition, we’ll include a résumé-building component focused on strengthening your résumé for current or future job opportunities and understanding how to tailor it to different roles. We’ll wrap up by reviewing what documents you should have ready for your first day of work, such as I-9 verification materials, direct deposit information, and emergency contacts, so you feel prepared and confident walking into any new role.
